Due to increased demand, Valmiera City Council this summer will employ more than 200 pupils aged 13 to 18.
“We believe that a short-term summer job is beneficial to everyone. By helping out with gardening or cleaning, city becomes tidier and this way students can earn some money to spend on their leisure activities and gain their first work-experience,” says the Mayor of Valmiera Mr Inesis Boķis.
On January 23 Latvian Open Technology Association presented awards to private and public entities which have significantly contributed in developing information and communication technologies by using open source technologies. Valmiera City Council received the main prize in the category “The most open state institution”.
On June 1 local government elections in Latvia were held. In Valmiera city 5 political parties registered their candidates, however only 4 of them managed to overcome the 5% electoral threshold.
This weekend Pskov - one of the cooperation cities of Valmiera - celebrates its 1108th anniversary! The City Festival will be held from July 22 to July 24. The delegation from Valmiera City Municipality - executive director Jānis Baiks and vice-executive director Aigars Vītols will attend the events of the City Festival and will meet their colleagues there.
In July 16 the mayor of Halle (Westf.) (Germany) Anne Rodenbrock-Wesellmann and the mayor of Valmiera City Municipality Inesis Boķis signed the cooperation agreement between both cities.
