Valmiera Music School, which is celebrating its 93rd anniversary this year, on November 4 opened its doors for the students in the newly built building at the picturesque river bank of Gauja.
Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences joined the Eco-University programme a year and a half ago with FEE Latvia’s full support. It is a great start to making the Eco-Schools programme much broader – now from kindergarten to university! It means that every child has the option to choose an “eco-friendly” education system at every stage of their lives. Consequently it brings more “green” everyday action all over Latvia.
For most of the schools in Latvia, September 2 marked the beginning of a new school year, however it was particularly special for students and teachers of Valmiera 5th Secondary School.
After years of persistent work, Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences finally received the prestigious award as an appreciation of their efforts.
This August, the 15th Baltic International Summer School (BISS) hosted by Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences (ViA) came to a successful end. This year’s summer school consisted of two parallel programmes: Erasmus IP “Glocalizing Development: Development Perspectives of Rural Regions and Small Towns in Globalized World” and “International Tourism and Event Management” (ITEM).
Dr.hist.Gatis Krūmiņš has replaced Dr.hist. Vija Daukšte as the new rector of Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences. As it already was the 2nd term of Ms Daukšte in the rector’s post, she couldn’t apply for the post one more time.
Dr.hist. Gatis Krūmiņš previously has been a member of the Council of the Latvian Academy of Sciences, chairmen of Young Scientists Association and took part in the higher education accreditation group as an expert.
From April 9 – 12, 2013, the Faculty of Social Sciences of Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences (ViA), together with Scandinavian and Baltic partners, organizes an intensive programme on Intercultural Communication, which is one of Nordplus network Ekoteknord activities.
From March 4 to 6 twelve teachers from Tallinn, Estonia and Lanciano, Italy gathered in Valmiera to exchange their personal experiences and discuss various issues related to the promotion of a healthy lifestyle. This international exchange happened in the “Comenius” project framework. By the end of the whole project, teachers from all three countries will have visited all three countries at least twice. This was the 2nd time when these teachers met in Valmiera.
Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences is now taking applications for the new international study module for the academic year 2013/14. Students have shown interest in the new module.
This year the university has taken great care to select inspiring and captivating courses for exchange students. The brand new International study module addresses the dynamics of the contemporary world.
During the summer months, Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences hosts two international student interns to work on developing different film projects. This is the first time for the university to accept students for work placements in the Erasmus exchange programme.
